Spaniards have long come to this region to enjoy not just the famous "Pata Negra" cured ham, but also fresh cuts of "black pork" whose sublime flavour is beyond compare.

The Sierras are also home to hunting grounds for wild boar, rabbit and deer. Along with the Iberian pork, these meats are featured in the menus of the many restaurants and bars of the town.

Fresh and organic produce is prized in the area with restaurants serving local tomatoes in summer, and spectacular wild mushrooms, asparagus and chestnuts in the cooler months.

Other local products include artisan cheese, honey, olives and - for the sweet-toothed - the traditional cakes of Rufinos', famous throughout Spain.
