The Caves
The town's most famous attraction is the "Gruta de las Maravillas" or the "Cavern of the Marvels". It is arguably the most impressive in all of Spain and served as the film location for the adaptation of Jules Verne's novel "Journey to the Center of the Earth".
Opened to the public in 1914 (coincidently the same year as the original building of La Casa Noble) the caves are comprised of three levels incorporating lakes and various "rooms", each taking its name from the shapes or colours of the formations inside - the Shell Room, the Bright Room, the Shawl Room, the Emerald Lake.
It is incredible to think that this wonder of nature has been evolving over millions of years and continues to grow each day. It is a spectacular experience and shouldn't be missed.
